E C Emmerich

The E.C. Emmerich Company was founded in Remscheid, Germany in 1852 by the master-craftsman, Friedrich-Wilhelm Emmerich.

In that era, cabinetmakers usually made their own tools. The founder made such fine planes for himself, that his colleagues offered to buy his tools for their personal use. The plane making business started and grew. Soon, the founder and his son, Max Emmerich, had to leave their small workroom and build a plant to make planes.

Today the company is run by the fifth generation son, Hans-Jörg Emmerich, who is the present owner of E. C. Emmerich toolmakers.

All owners were, and remain today, technicians who maintain the machinery in good mechanical condition. Most of the machines in the factory were specially designed and built by the Emmerichs. Skilled and carefully trained employees are today's basis for producing E.C.E.'s high-end tools.

Around 1950, Friedrich-Wilhelm, with his father Karl, developed the Primus adjustment system with no freewheeling of the screw and no back sliding of the iron. It remains unique in that regard. The adjustable Expert jack plane and the Pocket plane followed.

Setting the wedge too hard can no longer damage traditional wedged planes. A modern, E.C.E. patented integral steel wedge support prevents such damage to the plane body.

Today, the E.C.E. brand is well known worldwide by cabinetmakers for high quality planes and for other fine, hand woodworking tools.

Tools 4 Wood sell many oft the E C Emmerich products, with access to them all upon request. Our main focus is on the handplanes and chisels, but also complete toolboxes.

Thomas Flinn & Co Sawmakers

Thomas Flinn & Co. have been manufacturing the highest quality handsaws since 1923.

These are ground and tensioned to exacting specifications to stay true and are produced using the best quality materials. The teeth are set and sharpened to the most stringent standards and beautiful handles of beech, rosewood and other selected hardwoods are inset with brass rivets and screws with medallion heads, which make these saws a pleasure to own and use for years.
These saws perform as their early craftsmen intended. In this regard the purchase of a saw from Thomas Flinn is an investment that befits your skills in woodcraft. They will, with care, outlast cheaper alternatives and many customers say they become old friends.

To compliment our existing range we have added the PAX brand which has been finely crafted since 1776. We pride ourselves on a skillful combination of modern technology and the traditional hand craftsmanship associated with the very best saw-making.

This ensures that every Thomas Flinn saw will be a cut above the rest!

The range includes saws for every application - from rip saws, panel and tenon saws through to fine toothed mini gents and inlay saws to enable veneers to be cut accurately
