An ideal tool for final smoothing or working highly figured or reversing grain. A large sole ensures an accurately flattened surface. Adjustable frog enables blade angles from 0 to 25 for fine control of cutting action. The integral thumbscrew bows blade to eliminate ridges on work surface from blade corners.
High-carbon steel blade is 0.055" thick. Optional 1/8" (0.125") thick A2 tool steel blade is also available for those preferring to use uncambered blades. Optional 1/8" thick toothed A2 tool steel blade has V-shaped teeth at 25 teeth per inch and will prepare a surface for veneering or to pre-condition an area with difficult grain (follow up with a smooth plane).
All blades are 2-7/8" wide and hardened to Rc48-51 and come with cutting edges ground at 45. Stress-relieved ductile cast iron body is machined and surface ground on the 9-1/2" sole.
